Wow, we’ve been so focused and busy (productive!) over the last few months that we forgot to tell you about all the new integrations you can now add to your arsenal! You might have noticed them popping up out of the blue. In upcoming blog posts, we’ll show you how to best use each one:

From mobile analytics like Amplitude or Tapstream, to A/B testing with Visual Website Optimizer, to heat maps in Inspectlet, we’ve got you covered! And we’ll continue to update you as new integrations go live in the future.

One of the biggest benefits to switching to Segment is that you’re no longer locked-in to any single analytics tool. Today, we’re taking that one step farther. Our new Webhooks integration lets you get your raw data in real-time, anywhere you want!

How do Webhooks work?

Every time an API call hits our servers, we’ll forward that call on to your servers in additions to any analytics tools you’ve enabled in our interface. That means that whenever you record a user’s actions with our track() method, or their traits with our identify() method, we’ll send that data to you in real-time.

We’ll call your webhook endpoint with a full JSON representation of the track or identify. You can check out the exact format in our docs.

Enabling the new Webhooks integration is super easy, just enter your URL endpoint on your Integrations page and we’ll start sending your data to you:

We’ve even written a small example server to show you what ingesting your own webhooks data might look like. Check it out!

There are tons of possibilities!

Our users have already thought up a bunch of ways to use webhooks:

  1. Send data to your own custom analytics tools, be it statsd, batsd, or even a completely custom company dashboard. With webhook data streaming to your servers it’s incredibly easy!

  2. Build custom features for your clients’s applicatons that respond to user actions tracked via Segment and trigger automated tasks, like emailing receipts or invitations.

  3. Merge revenue data from your Segment events with the data you receive from their payment provider to get the full picture for each customers revenue, including refunds and chargebacks.

  4. Add support for new services that we haven’t added to Segment yet.

The Webhooks integration is available immediately in Segment so you can try it today! If you think up any cool new ones of your own let us know.

Optimizely has been our most requested integration by far, and today I’m happy to announce that it has finally arrived! With the flip of a switch, you can send your events and revenue directly to Optimizely, and we’ll also sync your Optimizely data back to all of your other Segment integrations!

Unlock your A/B test data!

A/B tests are an extremely powerful way to figure out what works and to improve your business. And if you know which variation of your A/B test a user has seen, you can use that to create super-targeted campaigns or dive deeper into the effects of the test.

The good news is, our Optimizely integration makes that incredibly easy. Whenever a user is exposed to one of your Optimizely experiments, we’ll record which experiment they saw, and send that data to the rest of your analytics tools.

That way, no matter which tool you’re using, you’ll always have access to your A/B test data.

That means you can easily:

  • Create segments in your Mixpanel or KISSmetrics reports depending on the specific variation of an experiment the user saw.

  • Send targeted newsletters from Customer.io, Vero, userfox, or any of our other email tools depending on which variation the user saw.

  • Trigger targeted surveys with our Qualaroo integration depending on which variation of your experiment the user is currently seeing!

And since we add new integrations every week, the possibilities will only continue to grow :)

It’s the easiest integration yet!

Optimizely is slightly different than our integrations because you always want it to load synchronously on your page, so that your visitors never see a flash before your experiments kick in.

Because of that, you don’t need to enter any settings to turn on our Optimizely integration. Just flip the switch, leave your Optimizely snippet embed on your site and we’ll start routing your track calls to Optimizely in addition to your other analytics services.

If you’re tracking revenue as well, we’ve added support for Optimizely’s revenue API, so all of your revenue calls with start flowing right into Optimizely as well. That way you can see if your A/B tests are actually are affecting your most important metric!

Our friends at Outbound believe that automated messages should be plumbing, not rocket science. They can help you instantly turn your analytics events into sms, push, voice, or email product notifications. Today, we’re excited to announce them as our newest integration!

When you send an event to Segment:

You can use Outbound to send an email, text, push, or voice notification to you or the customer - all without writing any code! Better yet, you can keep using your current providers, like SendGrid, Twilio, or Urban Airship, so there’s no switching costs.

Here’s the other cool thing: Outbound gives you a unified view of all the messages that you send to each customer across all channels so you can see what the experience is like for them.

We use Outbound to send ourselves texts every time a user does something that makes us happy, like entering a credit card.

Outbound is in free private beta. Sign up for their service here, and then simply toggle it on in the Segment integrations page.

We added a new Segment integration: Perfect Audience!

Perfect Audience is a retargeting ad platform. Retargeting is brilliant by itself: advertise to users who looked at your product, but didn’t yet buy.

Perfect Audience specializes in retargeting ads on Facebook, but they do the rest of the web as well.

If you’re looking for a retargeting solution, Perfect Audience is a fresh new advertising channel, and claims their customers get 10x ROI. Definitely worth checking out, and even comes with a free trial!

Today we’re announcing support for BugHerd!

It’s hard to keep track of bugs, but it’s a lot easier if you keep track of them on your site.

BugHerd is a simple issue tracker that shows your bugs in your workflow. Their sidebar pops up whenever you’re on your own site, giving you fast, contextual access to your TODOs and bug reports:

Today we’re excited to announce support for Pingdom Real User Monitoring! Pingdom released the service from beta less than two weeks ago.

Pingdom’s Real User Monitoring lets you see exactly how long your pages take to load from your users perspective. They capture timing information about network, DNS lookup and frontend rendering time. They even capture geographic information to show you where in the world your site is slowest.

How can you speed up your site?

As soon as we rolled out the Segment Pingdom RUM integration, we turned it on for ourselves, and honestly I was surprised by what we saw!

See I thought our site was pretty fast, and indeed, it loads in under 3 seconds across the United States and Canada. What I didn’t realize is that we were so slow (10+ seconds!) for some of our customers in Asia and Europe.

In retrospect it’s obvious why: our servers are based in the AWS Oregon datacenter, so we’re slow for the other half of the world. We’ve started looking into Cloudflare as a way to speed up our site in distant countries. Our hope is this will significantly reduce our long-tail load times:

We’re happy to announce that we just released our newest premium service: our Omniture integration. Omniture is the premier E-Commerce tool for tracking user behavior, and it’s used by tons of large businesses worldwide.

By turning on the integration in Segment, all of the events you track through our API will be sent directly to Omniture as well! No code changes. That means you can replace your complicated Omniture implementation with the same clean analytics API we support everywhere else.

Qualaroo is a survey tool that helps you “understand and address the real issues that prevent conversions”. We’re excited to announce that the Qualaroo integration on Segment is now available.

Normal analytics can show you conversion rates, but that’s only half the answer. You need to know why users aren’t converting! That’s where Qualaroo comes in. When a user is about to drop out of your conversion funnel, Qualaroo lets you pop up a survey and ask them a question.

If you’re trying to improve a particular part of your app, there’s no better way than asking users right when they’re trying to use it. For example, we want to make our Segment setup flow as smooth as possible, so we’ve started using Qualaroo to ask our users “Are you stuck setting up?”

This’ll make our setup flow better and better as we hear everyone’s feedback.
