How Promoter.io works
NPS surveys from Promoter.io only require an email address to be uploaded to the tool. However, more work is required to build custom segmentations or customize the survey emails that get sent out. In order to do this, you’ll need to send data about who your customers are and what they’re doing directly to the Promoter.io API. Doing so requires learning and maintaining another distinct API in your event tracking code.

traits already stored by Segment to power user segmentation and customize email templates. When an event gets triggered it can be used to fire off a survey so you can choose the perfect moment to ask people what they think of your product. All of this happens automatically through the integration, so you don’t need to custom tool any additional events or call from new APIs.
