How Braze works

Braze works best when all of your customer data is available in the tool to be used for segmentation and triggered communications. That data might be from a single environment or from various apps and websites. Collecting your data on who customers are and what they’re doing across all channels requires a lot of upfront planning about what customer data you want to track. Once you’ve got a plan, developers from each platform will need to learn and implement Braze SDKs for web, iOS, Android, and in some cases server-to-server API calls.

Additionally, Braze is also available as a Segment Source. This means that all messaging activity recorded by Braze — like Email/Push/In-App Delivered, Opened, Clicked, Unsubscribed, etc. — can be streamed back through Segment as an event and out to all of your enabled Destinations, including warehouses. No coding is needed for the Segment Source outside of a typical Segment installation. This saves you countless development hours and resources considering the alternative of building a custom ETL pipeline.

Get more out of Braze with Segment

Segment makes it easier to install Braze across all platforms: Javascript on web, iOS or Android SDKs, and server-to-server. The user information recorded with the identify method and any actions being recorded with the track method are all sent through to Braze with the correct format and data labels that it expects. No additional code or configuration is required for those methods. If you’re planning to use Braze push notifications and in-app messaging, those features are also available via Segment. There is some configuration for these features that you’ll have to do regardless of whether Braze is loaded in or out of Segment, but there’s no extra work for you when using Braze via Segment. In fact, you end up saving development time since your team doesn’t need to learn or work with the Braze SDKs or API calls directly.
