How Lytics works

Lytics collects most of the data it needs from a Javascript library that you’ll need to load on all pages of your site. There’s some variable data about visitors that also needs to be recorded for you to get the most out of Lytics. The most important data is user information like name and email, which is used to power the messaging features of Lytics and make sure you’re not asking already-known users to opt in. It’s also useful to record events to Lytics about what people do when they’re on your site so that you can create email and advertising segments based on user behavior. All this data is collected using the Lytics API, which will require a developer to learn and implement its methods and data structure.

Get more out of Lytics with Segment

When you use Segment to implement Lytics on your site, you won’t have to add any custom code on top of your standard Segment implementation. Enable Lytics in your Segment integrations page to load the Javascript library onto your site without making code changes.

Segment automatically maps page, identify, and track data straight through to Lytics in the format it expects. That set of customer data is enough to power most Lytics implementations. In some cases it’s useful to record data from mobile apps or your backend server to the Lytics API. When you use Segment, any data you’re already collecting from those libraries can be passed through to Lytics as well.
