How VWO works
VWO is powered by a Javascript library that must be installed on your site before you can start running experiments. Experiments are designed and deployed within the VWO web app. The main reason for custom code is to export experiment data for analysis or for use in other tools like marketing automation. You’ll also need to write a custom event to record ecommerce transactions with order totals into VWO.
Get more out of VWO with Segment
Because the VWO library needs to load synchronously, you’ll still need to add one line of code to your page directly. Once the library is loaded, Segment will send ecommerce orders with order total through to VWO in the format it expects. When a visitor views an experiment variation, an event is triggered: Experiment Viewed
, with properties of the experiment and variation IDs. This way you can send the data resulting from the varied experiments people viewed downstream to all your other Segment integrations. You’ll use this downstream data to build reports in analytics tools, power marketing automation, or do advanced analysis in warehouses.
