How Appcues works
Appcues features are powered by a combination of its Javascript library and configuration in the admin app. To use the tool you’ll need to load the script on all pages in your app where you want to use Appcues. Once that’s done you can set up flows and use the messaging features, but you can’t target specific users based on their attributes. To get custom user attributes into Appcues you or a developer will need to pull the variable data from your database and build webhooks into the Appcues Javascript library to send the data through.
Get more out of Appcues with Segment
Turning Appcues on via its Segment integration will save you many developer hours and time spent writing duplicative event tracking code. Once you’ve gone through even a basic Sement website implementation, turning on Appcues in your Segment dashboard will immediately make all its features available to you. Any pages where the Segment Javascript library is loading, Appcues will load too. All your Segment user traits being recorded via the identify method will also be translated and sent through to Appcues so that you can customize which users see which flows or messaging.
