How LiveChat works

LiveChat is loaded by adding a Javascript library to your pages. You can control where the chat pops up in the LiveChat application. In order to show user attributes when operators are chatting with a customer, custom code is required. If you want to record LiveChat events in your analytics tool or data warehouse, more custom code is required. You’ll need to hook into the LiveChat on-page Javascript events or pull the raw data from the export API. All of these customizations will cost you developer time and likely result in duplicative event tracking setup if you’re running any other apps and tools on your site in addition to LiveChat.

Chat operators get the tools and information they need to provide customer service via live chat.

Get more out of LiveChat with Segment

Segment will load the LiveChat Javascript library in the background so you don’t have to add the snippet to your site manually. Any user traits you’re setting with the Segment identify  method will automatically be passed through to LiveChat without any additional code required on your part. The integration will collect a standard set of live chat events (Live Chat Started/Ended, Message Sent/Received) as they happen and send them back through Segment to be delivered to other Segment integrations and warehouses.
